Lady Tigers win pair at Pittsburg tourney
The Nevada Lady Tiger volleyball team competed in its first varsity tournament of the season, Saturday in Pittsburg, Kan., winning two of five matches.
The Lady Tigers opened play with a dominant two-set victory over Baxter Springs (Kan.) 25-21 and 25-9.
In its second match, Nevada fell to Carthage in two sets — 25-18, 25-21. Nevada’s third match of the day was against Carl Junction, as the Lady Tigers again fell in two sets — 25-19, 25-12.
In their fourth match, Nevada (9-4 overall) was edged by Frontenac (Kan.) in a three-set thriller — 26-24, (25-22), and 25-23. In its final match of the tournament, Nevada fell to host Pittsburg in two sets — 25-19, 25-12.
Tournament leaders for the Lady Tigers, include: Adrian Bond with 39 digs and 30 kills; Hailey Jackson, 62 assists and five aces; Alaina Morgan, 23 kills, 11 blocks and five aces; Lindley Ferry, 14 blocks; and Stacy Pennington, 44 digs and 21 kills.
