Lady Tigers successfully defend district crown
The Nevada Lady Tiger tennis team is once again district champions.
Nevada successfully defended its Class 1 District 12 crown Thursday in Clinton. The second-seeded Lady Tigers were originally slated to match-up with third-seeded Clinton in the semifinals on Tuesday. However, rain on both Tuesday and Wednesday forced not only a postponment of the match, but change of venue, as the match was held Thursday in Clinton.
Nevada opened play at noon Thursday, toppling Clinton 5-3. Nevada received singles victories from Emma Cheaney, Erika Watanabe, Hallie Short and Kaitlyn Hogan. Nevada also won two of its three doubles matches, with its top duo, Cheaney and Watanabe winning, and its No. 3 team of Short and Mikena Padgett notching the victory.
In the championship match with top-seeded Warrensburg, Nevada prevailed 5-4. Nailing down singles victories, were Cheaney, Watanabe and Short. In doubles play, Nevada’s No. 1 and No. 3 teams again prevailed. The victories improve the Lady Tigers to 13-3 on the season.
