Donna Dolores Barker
Donna Dolores Barker, 67, Independence, Mo., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 4. She was born on April 21, 1950, in Linwood, Calif., to Claude Avery and Lucy Mae (Mitchell) Boyd. She married Thomas H. Barker, Sr. on Oct. 10, 1965, in Nevada, and he survives of the home.
Donna grew up in California and attended school there. She came to Sheldon, with her family in 1963 and worked as an aide at various nursing homes in Nevada throughout her life. She was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Independence. Donna enjoyed going to the casinos, playing bingo and fishing.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas H. Barker, Sr.; two sons, Thomas H. Barker, Jr. and Jamie Barker, both of Nevada; two daughters, Jackie Shepherd and her husband Randy, Independence, and Denise Shotts and her husband John, Ft. Scott, Kan.; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Anna Jones, Nevada, Linda Dills, state of Washington, Minnie Masters, Nevada and Michelle Roby, McAllen, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Vernon Eugene Barker; two sisters, Dorothy Wishman and Maxine Cerda; and two brothers Vernon Wayne Mason and Calvin Eugene Boyd.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8, at the funeral home.
