Glenda “Jean” Derringer
Glenda “Jean” Derringer, 69, of Nevada, passed away on Oct. 5, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada following a lengthy illness. Jean was born on Aug. 9, 1948, in Macks Creek, Mo., to Glen Clebert and Fern Adele (Blurton) McAfee.
Jean attended Mack’s Creek School graduating in the Class of 1966. She realized her childhood dream of becoming a nurse by graduating from the Nevada School of Practical Nursing and worked at the Nevada City Hospital, then Nevada Regional Medical Center for a total of 34 years. She also worked part-time at the Nevada State Hospital and Heartland Behavioral Health. Nursing was a job Jean loved and missed dearly after her retirement. She considered her greatest accomplishments her children and grandchildren. Jean was a member of the Fairview Christian Church.
Survivors include her children, Michael Derringer, Robert Derringer and Melissa Derringer all of Nevada; and five grandchildren, Rebecca, Rylan, Vincent, Wesley and William. She was preceded in death by her father, her mother and stepfather, Fern and Lord Tilley, and her ex-husband Jesse Van Derringer.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Cremation will follow. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
