Camerons conquer Swope Memorial
Nevada siblings Emree and Ty Cameron dazzled on the links earlier this month, collecting first-place finishes on the U.S. Kids Golf Tour at Swope Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Missouri.
Emree, 10, carded a 44 at the nine-hole event, securing her 40th career victory in just two and a half years of golfing competitively.
“Her scores have gone up a little, but it is all apart of the learning process,” said her father and swing coach, Eric, referring to Emree’s recent jump to the 10-year-old division.
“I no longer caddy for her on the local tours, so she is taking ownership of her game, thinking on her own. It’s a lot for a 10-year-old. It’s hard to stand back and see her making mistakes, but it will help her learn and better prepare her for the future.”
In his third tournament of the fall season, 7-year-old Ty Cameron notched his first career victory after firing a 45.
“Ty has been practicing more and, his scores have progressively gotten better,” noted Eric.
Locked in a tight battle through the first seven holes, Ty began to pull away courtesy of a par on hole No. 8. The par on the par-3, 70 yard hole, handed Ty a three stroke advantage with one hole to play.
Ty then sealed the victory with a bogey on the final hole. Ty was promptly greeted by Emree, who ran out on the green to congratulate him on his achievement.
“Don’t tell me how I did, I want it to be a surprise,” Ty told Emree.
Competing Oct. 7-8 in the Futures Junior Golf Tour’s inaugural event at Swope Memorial Golf Club, was Nevada High School junior, Bronson Smith.
Smith placed seventh out of 13 golfers at the 18-hole, par 72 event. Smith got off to a solid start, sitting at 2-over-par through the first 10 holes. Smith, however, concluded the first daywith a 12-over-par 84.
Smith found his groove on day two, caring an even par-72, tying him for the low individual score. “I had a really good tempo through the first 10 holes, and then just started swinging too quick,” said Smith of his opening round performance.
“On the second day, I stuck with a good smooth tempo and made way more putts.”
