Merrit E. “Red” Young

Merrit E. “Red” Young, 81, Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Medicalodges of Nevada. Red was born Feb. 6, 1936, in Richland, Mo., to Albert and Elsie Pearl (Bryant) Young. He was united in marriage to Naydean Long and she preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1990.

Red worked in construction all of his life and was employed by Joseph L. Pohl Construction in Nevada. He was a member of the Nevada Elks No. 564 and Nevada Eagles. Red was a hard worker all of his life and loved helping others. He dearly loved his little dog Tiny and watching the squirrels and hummingbirds. He enjoyed fishing, western movies and music.

Survivors include Michelle Boydston and her son Dylan, Nevada; one niece, Ronda Ann Young, Kansas City, Mo.; his dog, Tiny; and his many friends at the Nevada Elks and Nevada Eagles Lodges. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Welmer Young.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Roger Beach officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
