Danny Lane Compton
Danny Lane Compton 77, of Harwood, passed away Thursday, Jan. 25.
Danny was born Sept. 12, 1940, in rural Concord, Mo., the son of Leland Elbert and Della Lela (Hendrix) Compton. He graduated from Sheldon High School in 1958. He joined the US Army and served with the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper until 1962. He married Eddith “Violet” Allen on Dec. 27, 1960, in Nevada. Danny graduated from Missouri Southern State College in Joplin as a registered nurse in 1971. He worked for and retired from the State Hospital in Nevada after 33 years of service. Danny also worked for a few years at Cedar County Memorial. Since returning from the service Danny has farmed, raised cattle and had a passion for baling hay. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He looked forward to watching cartoons on Saturday morning with his kids and grandkids and also enjoyed shooting guns with them.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Danny Lane Compton; and three brothers Bruce, Lee and Jim Compton. He is survived by his wife, Violet, of the home; a daughter, Carmen Deragowski, of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; son, James Compton (Brenda), of Nixa, Mo.; grandchildren, Jared Deragowski (Cheryl), Dustyn Compton (Margaret), Levi Compton (Shanna) and Nicholas Compton (Brandy); 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Moyer (Ed), of Buffalo, Mo.; brother, William Compton, Nevada; two step-sisters, Helen Compton, Harwood and Linda Kay Cummins, Nevada; nieces, nephews, extended family and many treasured friends.
Funeral Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, in the Ferry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jeff Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Moore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Vernon County Cancer Relief in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
