Helen F. Pettibon
Helen F. Pettibon, age 85, Nevada, passed away on Monday, Jan. 15. Helen was born in rural Deerfield, the daughter of Everett and Beulah (Allen) Ripley on Oct. 3, 1932. She attended Logan Elementary School and Nevada High School. Following high school, she attended and graduated from Fort Scott Junior College.
On May 4, 1952, she was married to Kenton (Bud) Pettibon at the First Christian Church in Fort Scott and he preceded her in death in 2008. Helen and Bud lived on the same farm for 45 years. In 1986 they received the 100-year Century Farm award, as Helen was the fourth generation family member to continue farming life on that farm. They moved to Nevada in 2000. In earlier years they loved to travel. Helen was an avid reader, played dominoes, cards and was a volunteer at Nevada Regional Medical Center for several years.
Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law.
Survivors include one daughter, Faye Uttinger and her husband Virgil; one grandson, Jacob Uttinger and his wife Jessica, Calgary, Canada; and several cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 1, at Deerfield Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband of 56 years. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
