Bronaugh girls best Baxter Springs, 37-24, boys fall

The Bronaugh Lady Wildcats topped Baxter Springs (Kan.) 37-24 in a non-conference home contest on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Bronaugh boys team was tripped up by Baxter, 75-22.

In the opener, the Lady ’Cats led 10-5 entering the second, and 19-13 at the conclusion of a low-scoring first half. Through three quarters of play, Bronaugh held a 25-20 lead, before outscoring Baxter Springs 12-4 in the fourth, for the final 13-point margin.

Bronaugh (7-13) held Baxter to a frigid 10-of-44 (22 percent) from the field, and 0-for-14 from 3-point land. Bronaugh, meanwhile, shot 35 percent for the contest, on 15-of-42 from the field, and 7-of-13 from the charity stripe.

The Lady ’Cats held a 30-19 rebounding advantage, but committed 20 turnovers to Baxter’s 13. Bronaugh forward Paige Wait led the way with 13 points and eight rebounds, while fellow forward Riley Knapp filled the stat-sheet with eight points, nine rebounds, a pair of steals and a block.

“Everyone did a great job,” said Bronaugh head coach, Daryl Dodson. “The girls worked hard and, played a complete ball game.”

Bronaugh boys derailed

Bronaugh (2-17) found itself in a 25-1 first quarter hole, and trailed 46-8 at the break. Baxter Springs’ advantage swelled to 62-16 through three quarters, en route to the 53-point victory.

Baxter Springs connected on a robust 30-of-49 (61 percent) from the field, 6-of-10 from long-range, and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe. Bronaugh concluded 10-of-33 from the field, 1-of-10 from beyond the arc, and just 1-of-2 from the free throw line.

Bronaugh guard Garrett Earnest finished with a team-high 11 points, on 5-of-8 from the field, while Dallas McIntire added six. Meanwhile, nine Baxter players checked into the scoring column.

Up next

A non-conference road matchup with Marmaton Valley, today, in Moran, Kansas. The junior varsity boys are slated to tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity girls contest at 6, which precedes the boys varsity game.
