New council members sworn in

The Nevada city council held a special meeting Monday evening to certify the results of last Tuesday’s election, to swear in the new council members and select a new mayor.

The first order of business was certifying the results of the Tuesday, April 3, election. The board voted unanimously to certify the results.

Mayor Brian Leonard then presented a plaque to out-going council person Jayne Novak.

“Thank you for your dedication, service and leadership as a council member of the city of Nevada for the last … 11 years,” said Leonard. “It’s been a pleasure serving with you.”

Then Leonard handed control of the proceedings over to Mayor Pro-tem Ryan Watts who presented a plaque to the outgoing mayor.

Mayor Pro-Tem Watts then asked for nominations for mayor, Councilperson Blake Hertzberg nominated Leonard and the council voted 5-0 to approve Leonard as mayor.

Mayor Leonard then asked for nominations for mayor pro-tem and Watts nominated Hertzberg. The council voted 5-0 to approve Hertzberg as mayor pro-tem.

The council then voted to adjourn the meeting.
