Gary R. Richards Sr.
Gary R. Richards Sr., 71, Moundville, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, in the peace and comfort of St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo., with his family by his side, after enduring a battle with Lymphoma.
Gary was a great man in every sense of the word. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1966-1972, serving in the United States, Ethiopia and Vietnam. He was a disciplined and fair boss to many people working in various sectors of manufacturing for the automotive supply industry over his career including Carlisle Power Transmission, Fort Scott and in Springfield, Mo. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara, of the home; Gary R. Richards Jr., son; Dana M. Opfer, daughter; grandchildren, Jessica, Ian, Mason and Grace; great-grandchildren, Evelynn and Noah; siblings, John Richards, Mich., Linda Pyrkosz, Ala., Gaile Langohr, Mich., and David Richards, Calif.
Keeping with Gary’s wishes a traditional service will not be held. A celebration of life with military honors will be held on May 5 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with John Johnson officiating.
