Cottey’s 2018 softball season has been a smashing success, punctuated by the Comets’ second consecutive NJCAA Division II Region 16 championship.

Cottey (28-6) powered through last week’s Region 16 Tournament in Farmington, outscoring its opponents 22-3 en route to a perfect 3-0 tourney record.

In addition to its successful title defense, Cottey had four players tabbed for All-Region accolades.

Kirsten Wallace and Rayne Wright were selected to the All-Region 16 First-Team, while Izzy Milligan and Emily Killion garnered Second-Team honors.

Had there been such an award, Wallace would have been the clear front-runner for the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Hailing from White Hall, Arkansas, the freshman sensation shut down top-seeded St. Louis Community College twice. For the tournament, Wallace tossed 13 scoreless innings, while finishing 2-0 with a save.

In Cottey’s first victory over St. Louis, a 15-1 run-rule drubbing, sophomore second baseman Izzy Milligan finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored, on her way to second-team accolades. Meanwhile, freshman Wheaton, Missouri Native Emily Killion spun a six inning gem in Cottey’s 3-1 opening round win over Mineral Area.
