Father-son duos continue to dominate Nevada Speedway victory lane
Action-packed dirt track racing continued this past weekend at Historic Nevada Speedway. The Mother’s Day weekend special featured a field of 50 cars, racing across seven divisions, as well as a pair of father-son duos flying the checkers.
Repeating their spectacular opening weekend performances, Rusty and Brayton Skaggs emerged in victory lane — as well as Zachary and Shawn Hendren.
Pure Stocks
A dramatic Pure Stock feature concluded with the first-place car receiving a disqualification — resulting in Zachary Hendren collecting his first-career Pure Stock victory.
Ronnie Coulter of Fort Scott zoomed into the runner-up spot, while Lamar’s John Shaver zipped into third. Placing fourth was Matthew Hendren, while Carl Junction’s Thomas Dunham rounded out the top five finish.
Street Stocks
Emulating his son’s Pure Stock victory, Shawn Hendren triumphed in the Street Stock feature, capturing his first victory of the young season.
Billy Shadden, of Osawatomie, scored a runner-up finish, while Tyler Roberts netted third-place. Meanwhile, Chanute’s Jason Thurman finished in fourth.
Midwest Mods
Picking up right where he left off on opening weekend, Brayton Skaggs blazed to his second consecutive checkered flag in the Midwest Mods feature. Fellow Fort Scotian Trevor Vann trailed Skaggs en route to the runner-up position.
Third-place finisher, Devin Crockett of Lamar — outlasted Ryan Smith, as the Moran native was relegated to fourth-place, while Liberal’s Broc Rose placed fifth.
B-Mods
Another driver who bagged his second consecutive feature victory of the season, was Liberal native Matt Rose — while Fort Scott’s Jerry Morgan placed a strong runner-up to Rose.
After a heated battle with Levi Phillips — Adrian’s Alan Ferguson’s maneuvered into a third-place finish, as Phillips settled for fourth. Rounding out the top five B-Mod feature, was Osceola’s Justin Amick.
A-Mods
Fort Scott’s Rusty Skaggs has asserted his dominance in the A-Mod division, flying the checkers in back-to-back weeks.
After slugging it out with Skaggs, El Dorado Springs’ Lucas Dobbs achieved a second-place finish. Third place went to John Romesburg, while Eric Moore took fourth — and Kevin Wyland, fifth.
