Nevada High School’s Kirk Miller has resigned his position as the school’s head track-and-field coach, according to the official minutes from the Nevada R-5 Board of Education’s June 5 special meeting.

Further details of Miller’s resignation were not specified in board minutes, as those discussions took place in closed session.

Miller, who recently completed his second year leading the varsity program, coached track at several high schools before arriving at Nevada.

“We 100 percent support Kirk’s decision,” Nevada R-5 Superintendent Tyson Beshore told the Daily Mail Tuesday evening, adding that Miller will remain in his current teaching position. In addition, Miller is a varsity football assistant coach.

Miller previously replaced long-time NHS track coach Robert Watts, who retired at the conclusion of the 2015-16 school year. “Our philosophy at NHS is that track-and-field is just as much a team sport as it is an individual one,” Miller told the Daily Mail, prior to the start of the track-and-field season in early March. “Our motto this year is ‘divide the task, multiply the success.’”

The board minutes state that Miller’s resignation as head track coach is effective at the end of the 2017-18 school year.

Miller’s replacement has not been announced, as a search for Nevada High School’s next track-and-field head coach will soon be underway.
