Lois Mae Keating
Lois Mae Keating, 83, of Moundville, passed away at her home surrounded by her family, Friday, June 15.
Lois was born Oct. 20, 1934, in Milo, the daughter of James A. and Carolina Mae (Barnes) Dodge. She attended Bronaugh Schools and graduated from Nevada High School in 1953. She became a beautician during high school. After graduating Lois worked for Hallmark Card Company in Kansas City for a time before returning to Nevada. Lois married her loving husband, Darrell Keating, on June 6, 1954. She worked as a beautician at the Nevada State Hospital for 33 years, retiring in 1993. Lois will be remembered by her family and friends as being a devoted wife and mother who adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was very much at home on her farm, tending to the garden and flower beds and living the great country life. Lois was a member of the Fairview Church in Vernon County.
Lois is survived by her husband, Darrell of the home; five daughters, Carolyn Otter, of Nevada, Pamela Keating, Warrensburg, Mo., Linda Mae Knapp, Nevada, Darrlea Spees (John), Downing, Mo., and Sherry Pfeiffer (Mike), Arlington Heights, Ill.; ten grandchildren, Kelly Otter, Tyler Otter, Karalee Gerster, Erin Forkner, Casey Knapp, Leah Knapp, Eli Knapp, Christy Knapp, Angie Knapp and Jeremy Knapp; 25 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Norma Miller; a half-brother, Peter Dodge; and two sons-in-law; Jerry Knapp and Leon Otter.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, in the Ferry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bert Travis of the Fairview Church officiating. Interment followed in Moore Cemetery in Nevada. Memorials may be made to “National Kidney Foundation” in care of the Ferry Funeral Home.
