Griffons topple Outlaws, 7-3
After being rained out Wednesday evening, the Griffons were back in action Thursday night at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin. Matching up for the first time this season with MINK South Division foe Joplin Outlaws, the Griffons came out on top, 7-3.
Nevada southpaw hurler Chandler Currey made his first start of the season, and was staked to a 6-0 advantage, with the offensive output highlighted by Domonique Hernandez’s second inning three-run bomb.
The run-support was more than enough for Currey, who stuck out seven, while allowing one earned run in five frames of work.
Currey was followed by a trio of Griffon relief pitchers, with closer David Ruot slamming the door shut in the ninth. At the dish, Hernandez concluded 2-for-5 with four RBI, as the Griffons improved to 7-9 overall.
Currently, the Griffons sit 1.5 games back of the first-place Ozark Generals.
Nevada heads north tonight, as the Griffons return to the diamond for a match-up with the St. Joseph Mustangs. Nevada then returns home Sunday, for a 7 p.m. contest with the Mustangs.
