Grand performance: El Do’s Dobbs nabs $1,200 A-Mod Special

In front of a packed house July 21 at Nevada Speedway, 13 A-Modifieds hit the local dirt oval on a mission to collect a hefty $1,200 payday.
El Dorado Springs native Lucas Dobbs fended off stiff competition and flew the checkers en route to the big prize. Meanwhile, Rusty Skaggs’ ultra-successful season on the track continued, with the Fort Scott native trailing Dobbs in the runner-spot. Rounding out the top five A-Mod finishers, were Joplin’s Kyle Thompson (third), John Romesburg (fourth) and Jessy Willard (fifth).
Late Models
Prior to climbing into the Donnie Timmerman-owned A-Modified vehicle and finishing second, Skaggs had visited victory lane just moments earlier, having triumphed in the 15-lap Late Model feature.
In a side-by-side battle Rich Hill’s Billy Humble scored the second place finish, while relegating El Do’s Craig Wood to third. Meanwhile, Mound City’s John Willard placed fourth, and Butler’s Dale Douty, fifth.
Mini Stocks
Foxie Sumner continued to flex his muscle in the Mini Stock division, as the local product flew the checkers for a Nevada Speedway season-best sixth consecutive time.
Making the trip south, Grandview’s James Witt slotted into second-place, and was followed by Jordan Beard, of Liberal (third); Katie Brown, of Prescott (fourth); and Mike Baxter, of Sheldon.
Midwest Mods

Chalking up another victory Fort Scott’s Brayton Skaggs continued his dominance of the Midwest Mod division. Trailing Skaggs, Lamar native Devin Crockett zoomed to a second-place finish.
Weaving through the crowded field of competitors, Liberal’s Broc Rose bagged third place, while Steve Arduser placed fourth, and Osceola’s Justin Amick, fifth.
Street Stocks
Shawn Hendren added to his collection of first place hardware, with the Nevada native parlaying pole position into another victory.
Mound City’s Jeremy Willard moved up several spots from his original starting position to score a runner-up finish, while competitor Billy Shadden, of Osawatomie, netted the third place finish. In addition, Zachary Hendren placed fourth, and El Do’s Kevin York fifth.
B-Mods
Matt Rose was the man on the move last Saturday night, ascending eight spots from his original starting position as he blazed a path to victory lane.
Making his first appearance at the speedway since 2012, Hermitage’s Bobby Williams sped into the runner-up spot. El Do native Kelby Keith had Williams within his sights, but was eventually forced to settle for the third place finish. Rounding out the the top five finishers, were Noesho’s Levi Phillps (fourth) and Brice Gotschall (fifth ).
