Local groups to provide Thanksgiving dinner

Wednesday, November 21, 2018

As many people are preparing to travel, organizing family get-togethers and finalizing their Thanksgiving menus, several local organizations are once again providing hearty Thanksgiving meals to those with no place to go or those in need of a hot meal and/or fellowship over the popular holiday.

Nevada’s American Legion, 402 E. Cherry, has been serving a free traditional Thanksgiving meal to those in need for over 50 years. “We average from 100-150 serving a year,” Commander Don Adams said. “Everyone is welcome to come in and enjoy a free Thanksgiving meal. Circumstances don’t matter. Everyone is welcome.” Adams said this year’s meal will include the usual turkey, potatoes, pumpkin pie and more. “We serve from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving and hope to have a good crowd.”

The Community Outreach Kitchen, 225 N. Cedar, will also be providing hot meals on Thanksgiving Day during their regular operating hours of 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Jim’s Roadhouse, 705 N. Osage, will be providing a traditional Thanksgiving meal beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
