Sheldon swept by Dadeville in double-dip
DADEVILLE — In a non-conference varsity doubleheader Monday night, the Sheldon Panther and Lady Panther basketball teams were downed by Dadeville.
The Sheldon boys were upended, 69-43 — while Lady Panthers were edged, 39-38.
"(Our) main struggle (was turnovers)," said Sheldon head coach Jacob Well of the boys' contest. "We shot the ball pretty well, but it wasn’t enough."
Sheldon (10-9) was led by Dylan Brzuchowski's team-high 17 points, while forward Jason Leavell chipped in 11.
The Lady Panthers, meanwhile, opened the season with victories in nine of their first 12 contests. Monday's one-point loss, however, extended Sheldon's losing skid to six games, as the Lady Panthers move to 9-9 overall.
Junior guard Meckinize McCartney paced the Lady Panthers with a team-high 14 points, while fellow guards Mahalia Swink and Madison Garren finished with 13 and nine respectively.
"The girls played really good defense throughout the game," said well, also the girls' head coach. But we struggled to hold on to the basketball in key moments."
