With the home-stretch of their season in view, the Sheldon Panther baseball team bested the Hume Hornets, 6-3, Thursday evening.

The Golden Valley Vernon County Conference home victory moves Sheldon to 5-5 overall, and 4-0 in GVVC-play.

Sheldon received an offensive boost from Jason Leavell and Connor Duncan, with both belting homeruns.

Leavell was also sterling on the mound, tossing a 91-pitch complete-game, while racking up 11 strikeouts. The loss, meanwhile, moves Hume to 2-5 overall, and 1-2 in conference-play.

Prior to Thursday’s victory, Sheldon was in action Tuesday, as the Panthers absorbed a 13-3 six-inning non-conference road-loss to Jasper.

“We played really well the first four innings,” said Sheldon head coach Jacob Well, adding that his club was undone by errors in the fifth.

For Sheldon, senior catcher Clayton Loyd clubbed a two-run homer. Sheldon returns to the diamond May 6 for a non-conference road clash with Walnut Grove (12-4).
