Christopher Ferrel “Chris” Owen
Christopher Ferrel “Chris” Owen, resident of Benton, Ark., formerly of Nevada, Mo., died at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Chris was born Nov. 29, 1939, in Nevada. The son of Ferrel and Betty Mae Fischer Owen. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1957.
Chris served in the United States Airforce in the early 1960s. After his discharge, he attended SMU in Dallas, Texas, majoring in chemistry. After college, he moved to California and married Virginia Johnson and was employed at Celrex. He worked for several companies before starting his own business.
Chris was a chemist working in precious metal recovery. He moved back to Nevada in the early 1980s. While in Nevada, Chris started his hand carved signs company.
He will be remembered for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He will be sadly missed by his family. In August 2016, Chris moved to Benton, Ark., to live with his son Darren Owen, daughter-in-law Veronica, and two grandchildren.
Survivors include his son, Darren and wife, Veronica; grandsons, Dakota Owen, Florida, and Dillon Owen; granddaughter, McKenna Owen of the home; two brothers, Rick Owen and wife, Bonny, Pleasanton, Calif., and Jim Owen and wife, Cam, of Nevada; three nephews, Corey Owen (Lisa), Independence, Mo., Chase Owen (Deandra) Nevada, and Rick Owen, Pleasanton, Calif; two nieces, Elexa Owen (Kendall) Nevada, and Nicole Doll (Jason) California; and several great-nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his former wife and companion, La Mae Bryant; his parents; and two nephews. No memorial services are planned.
