Voters show strong support of NRMC in special election
On Tuesday, the issue of a proposed half-cent sales tax was put before the voters of the City of Nevada, who passed the measure 1020 to 128. The ballot measure drew a nearly 25 percent voter turnout with 88 percent approval.
The special election was the result of the work of Citizens United to Strengthen Our Hospital, a grassroots effort created by Dr. Warren Lovinger to develop support for Nevada Regional Medical Center and its services.
Back in May, the Nevada City Council gave final approval on the bill to bring to voters a proposal of a half-cent sales tax in support of Nevada Regional Medical Center’s outstanding debt.
The estimated $800,000 generated annually from the sales tax will be used solely for the purpose of paying down NRMC’s 1.5 million dollar annual bond responsibility. It will sunset once the debt is paid.
