Lady Tigers sharp at Carthage volleyball jamboree
The Nevada Lady Tiger volleyball team kicked off its season with a strong showing at Tuesday's Carthage High School volleyball Jamboree.
With each match slated for only two sets, the Lady Tigers opened the festivities with a convincing straight-set (15-12, 15-10) victory over Joplin. In their second matchup, Nevada split with host Carthage (13-15, 15-10). The Lady Tigers then wrapped the night against the Aurora Lady Houns', falling to the perennial powerhouse in two sets (12-15, 9-15).
Nevada head coach Ashley Thoreson said she was thrilled with her squad's play to open the season.
"Overall, I am very pleased to see how aggressive our hitters were, and how well we played together," said the veteran head coach. "With a class of seven seniors I was confident going into tonight, and was able to get several players into positions to see how the lineups worked."
Added Thoreson: "The girls adjusted well to changes, and it was great to be able to play against top competition in our area. We are excited to get the 2019 season started."
The Lady Tigers' season-opener is set for Sept. 5, a Big 8 Conference cross-division road-clash with the Mount Vernon Lady Mountaineers.
