Sheldon dispatches Ballard, Hume falls in non-con match

The Sheldon Lady Panther volleyball team rolled to an impressive GVVC Conference victory Thursday, knocking off visiting Ballard  — 25-23, 25-21.

"(We) came together as a team, and I absolutely love to see them play and have fun doing it," said Sheldon head coach Emily Godsey. 

Sheldon's Tori McClure registered a perfect serve percentage (9-for-9), and added three kills. Also for the Lady Panthers outside hitter Mahalia Swink tallied 15 digs, six aces, and five kills, while Sheldon middle blocker Madyson Bogart chipped in four kills.

Sheldon's junior varsity team was also in action, besting Ballard — 25-19, 25-21. 

"As a JV squad, the goal is to learn the basics, know how to play the game, and learn how to play as a team," Godsey noted. "We are working diligently, and coming very far in all of those categories, all while having fun. This is a fun team to watch, and I look forward to the future of the Sheldon Lady Panther volleyball."

For the Sheldon JV team, Destiny Brokob collected three aces and a kill, while Deborah Lamb added a trio of kills, and Christina Scalley concluded with a perfect serving percentage.

Sheldon returns to the court Tuesday (Sept. 17) for a non-conference home clash with Golden City. 

Lady Hornets

Also on Thursday, the Hume Lady Hornets were defeated by Pleasanton (Kan.) High School in a two-set non-conference home match (12-25, 18-25). 

For Hume (2-2) ,Braelynn Morrison notched two kills, two blocks, and an ace; Cassidy Rogers two kills, two aces, and a block; Deborah Yarick two aces and a kill; and Kaitlyn Kaiser one kill.
