Lady Tiger middle school teams wrap season
The Nevada Middle School seventh and eighth-grade volleyball teams collected a pair of runner-up at finishes at their respective Big 8 Conference tournaments over the weekend. They then put the finishes touches on their sterling seasons at the Wild West Spikefest on Monday and Tuesday.
Hosted by Lamar Middle School, the Nevada Lady Tiger eighth-grade team defeated Monett in two sets (25-15, 25-17) in the semifinals of the Big 8 Conference West division tourney.
Nevada then dropped a heartbreaker in the title match, falling to host Lamar in three sets — 25-19, 12-25, 15-17.
Competing at Granby Junior High, the NMS seventh-grade Lady Tigers prevailed over Seneca in three sets in the semifinals of the Big 8 West division tourney — 23-25, 29-27, 15-8.
In the championship match, Nevada was derailed by Lamar — 25-20, 22-25, 7-15.
In addition to their runner-up finishes, both Nevada's seventh and eighth-grade spikers were undefeated in conference-play during the regular-season.
At the season-ending eighth-grade Wild West Spikefest in Carl Junction on Monday night, the top-seeded Lady Tigers breezed past No. 8 Neosho — 25-11, 25-9.
Against fifth-seeded Carl Junction Tuesday, the Lady Tigers absorbed a two-set defeat in the semifinals (10-25, 12-25).
Nevada then bounced back, nipping second-seeded Lamar in the third-place game — 26-24, 25-23. With the victory, the eighth-grade Lady Tigers wrapped their season with a sparkling 13-3 overall record.
At the seventh-grade Spikefest, hosted by Webb City on Monday, Nevada coasted past McDonald County — 25-14, 25-17. In the semifinals Tuesday, Nevada fell to Carl Junction — 23-25, 27-25, 18-25. In the third-place match, Nevada was swept by Webb City — 12-25, 15-25.
The NMS seventh-grade team wrapped its season 12-3 overall.
