Cubs defeat Tigers in regular-season finale, 49-0
For a second consecutive week the Nevada Tigers were blanked on the gridiron.
Following last week's 42-point loss to Lamar, the results were eerily similar Friday night, as Nevada absorbed a 49-0 Big 8 Conference road- defeat at the hands of the Monett Cubs.
With their losing skid reaching 15, Nevada wrapped its regular-season slate 0-9 overall.
It was a fast start for Monett, as fullback Brandon Majors broke off an 80-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage, and led 7-0.
The lead quickly swelled to a three touchdown advantage, as Jamie Guinn gashed Nevada for touchdowns runs of 10 and seven yards — coming at the 8:40 and 7:12 mark of the opening frame.
Monett struck for three more first half touchdowns, all coming with under six minutes remaining on the second quarter clock.
Quarterback Karter Brink linked up with wide out Dylan Lynch for a five-yard TD pass, handing the Cubs a four touchdown cushion with 5:35 showing on the clock.
At 3:17, Brink connected with Arnold Cavazos on a 48-yard TD strike, for a commanding 35-0 lead. With a half-minute remaining in the half, it appeared Monett was just trying to run the clock. Instead, Gunnar Bradley took an inside handoff and bolted 27 yards to paydirt.
Monett (7-2) led 42-0 at the half.
With a minute remaining in the third quarter, freshman running back Stewart Weltes plowed in from a yard out, accounting for the contest's final score.
Freshman cornerback Cade Beshore provided a bright spot for Nevada, courtesy of his first half interception of Brink.
