Lady Tigers smother Seneca on hardwood, 36-4

Nevada Middle School’s eighth-grade Lady Tiger hoopsters throttled the visiting Seneca Indians, 36-4 Tuesday night.
The Lady Tigers blanked Seneca in the opening frame, jumping in front, 7-0. Nevada then padded its cushion, seizing a 20-3 halftime advantage.
After outscoring Seneca 16-1 in the third, Nevada’s lead swelled to 32. This accounted for the final margin, as neither squad scored in the final frame.
Lakyn Applegate paced the Lady Tigers with a game-high eight points. Nevada also received scoring contributions from Clara Swearingen (7), Abi Balk (7), Katie Johnson (6), Alli Balk (4), Kara Phillips (2), and Lindy Wilson (2). In the B-game, Nevada rolled to a 22-10 win. Nevada was led by Lanie Jackson’s game-high 10 points, while Skyler Burns tallied six.
Prior to Tuesday’s triumph, Nevada (6-1) flattened Monett in a road-matchup on Monday, 38-6 — and was edged by Fort Scott (Kan.), 22-19 on Nov. 26.
The NMS seventh-grade Lady Tigers were also in action Tuesday, playing host to Seneca, at Wynn Gymnasium. Nevada’s A-team prevailed in a nail-biter, 35-34. Leading the way for the Lady Tigers were: Jacey Williams and Peyton Eaton with eight points apiece, Ella Heathman (7), Caylee Holcomb (6), and Jenna Godsey (6).
“It was a very balanced effort,” said Nevada head coach, Danny Penn.
Also taking the court, Nevada's seventh-grade B-team was upended, 16-2.
