Lady Tigers dispatch Harrisonville, Beshore eclipses 1,000 point plateau
It was a memorable night at Wynn Gym Thursday, as the Nevada Lady Tigers downed Harrisonville, 49-19. The home faithful also witnessed star senior point guard Calli Beshore join the program's 1,000 point club.
Beshore, who entered the evening eight points shy of the milestone achievement, hit the 1K mark early in the second quarter, dropping in an 18-foot jumper — handing Nevada a commanding 27-4 advantage.
"My main priority was going out and getting a win with my teammates," Beshore said during the postgame radio interview, adding that the potential achievement was in the back of her mind entering the contest.
Beshore tallied 15 of her game-high 20 in the first half, while fellow senior guard Payge Dahmer chipped in a trio of first half triples — en route to a 36-6 halftime cushion. The contest was never in doubt in the second half, as the Lady Tigers cruised to the convincing win.
It was Nevada's second non-conference home victory in as many nights, as the Lady Tigers throttled the Pleasant Hill Chicks on Wednesday, 62-39.
Nevada (6-1) led Pleasant Hill 18-13 at the conclusion of the opening frame, but with a balanced scoring attack, outscoring the visitors 19-8 in the second for a 37-21 halftime lead.
The Lady Tigers then continued to pull away in the second half, as Beshore finished with a team-high 16 points. Additionally for Nevada, Dahmer and forward Teagan Charles dropped in 11 points apiece.
In junior varsity action, Nevada knocked off Harrisonville, 48-38.
