Wednesday, January 15, 2020

The Nevada High School Fine Arts Department will host a free Meet the Choirs concert Thursday evening at the Ella Maxwell Center for the Performing Arts with shows beginning at 7 p.m.

"It will definitely be an evening of entertainment," vocal director Wes Morton said.

Soundsational Singers, the varsity mixed choir, will perform their show based on the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis.

Treble Effects, the women's choir, will perform their show Women of Bowling.

Vocal Fusion, the mixed prep choir, will perform their show Back to Disco.

Nevada Middle School's Future Sounds will also perform.

Thursday's concert will feature the choirs' new pit band and costumes and is the culmination of months of hard work prior to the competition season which begins this Saturday in Mt. Vernon.

Morton wanted to thank the Parents Association, Kris Sisseck, Tom and Pete Schmidt, Jennifer Jones, Joy Hawks - for the work on costumes - and Lauren McConnaughey for her artwork.

He also wanted to thank Laura Chaney, theater director at Cottey College.

"She helped us create some really neat props," Morton said.

Following this weekend's competition at Mt. Vernon, the choirs next perform on February 1 at Joplin, February 7-8 in Troy,

February 15 at home for the Nevada Classic, February 22 in Carthage, and February 29 at Webb City.

Soundsational Singers will also travel to St. Louis on April 3-5 for a varsity choir only competition.
