Area schools further postpone classes
It was announced this week that area schools will further postpone classes in the wake of the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic.
Nevada R-5
According to the Nevada R-5 School District's website, "Nevada R-5 will be closed now through April 3 in an effort to help isolate the spread of COVID-19. This closure affects all school programming, including before- and after-school activities, all athletic and extracurricular practices and competitions, and all weekend events."
As reported in the Tuesday, March 17 edition of the Nevada Daily Mail, Nevada R-5 will continue to provide free lunches to school-aged children during the school postponement. In addition, they have now added breakfast to this. It will still be just the one time pick-up and will have the lunch that day with the breakfast for the following day in the same bag. These meals will continue to be served at Benton Elementary (500 E. Vernon St.) west doors and at Nevada High School (800 W. Hickory St.) at the south circle drive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
NEVC
Northeast Vernon County R-1 School District has announced they’ll be out of school until Sunday, April 5.
Sheldon R-8
Sheldon R-8 schools will postpone classes through April 3. During the school closure, free meals will be offered to all Sheldon children 18 and under in the community. Meals will be available for pick up at the Sheldon High School and the Sheldon Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning Monday, March 23. Those participating are asked to stay in their vehicle, and the meals will be brought out to them. They will be serving a ready-to-eat lunch along with a grab-and-go breakfast bag for the next morning.
Bronaugh R-7
Bronaugh R-7 schools will postpone classes through April 3. During the school closure, free meals will be offered to all Bronaugh children 18 and under in the community. Meals will be available for pick up at the Bronaugh High School and Moundville Community Center, at 8 a.m. each morning, Monday through Friday, beginning Monday, March 23. Those participating are asked to stay in their vehicle, and the meals will be brought out to them. They will be serving a ready-to-eat lunch along with a grab-and-go breakfast bag for the next morning.
El Dorado Springs
El Dorado Springs R-2 schools will be extending the school closure for the COVID-19 response through April 3. The situation will be reassessed around April 1 to make a decision about further closing if necessary.
