Virginia B. Baker

Virginia B. Baker, 86, Nevada, Mo., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 14, 2020, following a short illness. Virginia was born to Harry E. and Inez I. (Ebner) Irwin on March 29, 1934, in Elk City, Kan. She was the eighth-child born to this union. On Oct. 15th, 1950 she was united in marriage to Jesse R. Baker in Berryville, Ark., and to the union six children were born. She and Jesse celebrated 60 years together before he preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 2010.

Virginia was a Christian and a member of the Pentecostal Assembly Church in Nevada. Throughout her life she was a baby-sitter for many years, she worked at Nevada Manor for 5 ½ years, and at Honeywell in Nevada for almost 18 years. Virginia loved working and had many friends. She loved her church family, cooking, and was a baker. The happiest times of her life were raising her children and times spent with her grandchildren. Her hobbies were, reading, writing poetry and short stories (she had two poems published, which delighted her), and going to auctions. She loved all people and loved helping others.

Survivors include six children, two daughters, Cindy Hough and her husband, Dave, El Dorado Springs, Mo., Twila Baker and her partner, Don Burton, of Nevada; four sons, Jesse R. Baker Jr. and his wife, Sheila, Yuma, Ariz., Timmy W. Baker and his wife, Christine, Sheldon, Mo., Dennis L. Baker and his wife, Sherry, Nevada, and Kendall D. Baker and his wife, Natalie, Richards, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley J. Buser and her husband, John, Biglerville, Pa. In addition to her husband Jesse, she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Eric E. Killion of El Dorado Springs, Mo.; an infant sister, Eva Pearl Irwin; four brothers, Lloyd E. Irwin, Clayton E. Irwin, Melvin Irwin, and Meryle Junior Irwin; and several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, June 18, at Click Cemetery in Nevada with Pastor Dennis Engelbrecht officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, prior to the service.
