Lady Panthers upended by Lakeland
In a non-conference road tilt Wednesday evening, the Sheldon Lady Panther volleyball team was upended by Lakeland.
Against a strong Lakeland squad, Sheldon (0-5) was defeated in straight sets — 17-25, 9-25, 17-25. Ella Kleeman was Sheldon's top server, finishing 10-of-12, while dropping in a pair of aces. She also chipped in a block and a kill.
Other Lady Panther stat-leaders included Tori McClure, four kills and two blocks; Deborah Lamb, eight kills, and a team-high five aces; Britain Korsi, one kill, and an ace; Leah Byram, one kill.
"I am very pleased with how far (we) have come since (last) weekend's tournament," said Sheldon head coach, Emily Godsey. "They were working together as a team, and communicating. They have been working on keeping their heads up, even through mistakes."
Added Godsey: "I am incredibly proud of how they played in the first and third sets. The third set was a back-and-forth battle. The second set was mental for us. We started to underestimate what Lakeland could do, and they capitalized on that. Overall, we are starting to see the bright spots of what our team can do when we work together and have fun."
The Lady Panthers are slated to host a triangular on Monday, as they welcome in Greenfield and Pleasant Hope.
