Lady Tiger JV, C-team spikers compete at weekend tournaments
Nevada High's Lady Tiger junior varsity volleyball team had a fantastic weekend on the court, winning four of five matches en route to a second-place finish at the Aurora High School Invitational.
Nevada (6-2) opened with a three-set victory over Cassville 22-25, 25-6, 15-10. They then fell to Seneca in two sets 18-25, 22-25. Against host Aurora, the Lady Tigers prevailed in three sets 21-25, 25-10, 15-9.
In their fourth match Nevada triumphed over Strafford in three sets 15-25, 25-16, 15-13. And in their final match of the day, Nevada throttled East Newton 25-7, 25-17.
C-team results
The Nevada Lady Tiger C-team spikers won a trio of matches at the Pittsburg ((Kan.) High School Tournament over the weekend, while also dropping three.
In their opener, Nevada was edged by Labette (Kan.) County 25-14, 23-25, 13-15. In their second match, they fell to host Pittsburg in two sets 16-25, 13-25. In the third match, Nevada was edged by Independence (Kan.) 25-17, 13-25, 15-17.
The Lady Tigers then bounced back with three consecutive victories, beginning with a three-set win over Parsons (Kan.) High School 25-20, 24-26, 15-8. In their fifth match of the day, Nevada drilled Frontenac (Kan.) 25-13, 25-13.
The Lady Tigers continued their tour de force of three straight victories against Kansas schools by knocking off Fort Scott in a three-set thriller 21-25, 25-17, 15-13.
The trio of victories moves Nevada to 4-3-2 overall on the season.
