Nevada Daily Mail Sports Editor Matt Resnick netted second-place accolades in the Missouri Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest for his story on Nevada native Logan Bradley.

The story, titled "Logan's Song: Nevada High senior receives kidney transplant, makes triumphant return to diamond," garnered the runner-up finish in the category of Best Feature Story for Class 1 Dalies. The MPA judge noted that it was an "inspiring story of determination and overcoming obstacles."

Due to the global health pandemic the 154th MPA awards presentation banquet, held in the St. Louis area, was canceled. Instead, a virtual awards ceremony was produced, and released Saturday on Youtube. The MPA award is Resnick's second, having previously achieved first-place in 2018 for his coverage of local youth golfer Emree Cameron.

Bradley, a 2018 Nevada High alum, discovered at the age of 15 that his right kidney was absent, while his left kidney was functioning at less than 20 percent. After numerous surgeries and treatments, Bradley returned to the baseball diamond, and was an impact varsity starter for the Nevada Tigers.

"We are pleased to acknowledge Matt's most recent award from the Missouri Press Assocation's Better Newspaper Contest," said Nevada Daily Mail Publisher Lorie Harter. "We're honored he was selected as the recipient of the second-place prestigious Best Sports Feature Story award. Matt is very deserving of this recognition for his positive contribution, hard work, and consistent efforts to

accomplish this distinguished award."

Resnick joined the Daily Mail in July 2014, and has been in the position of sports editor since.

"The award speaks highly of his commitment to our organization and the communities we serve," Harter said. "Matt is a valued member of our team, and clearly shares in our mission statement to exceed expectations, strive to preserve the public trust through fair and accurate reporting, provide value-driven advertising opportunities; produce the highest quality printing products, and actively support the communities we serve."
