Cottey cancels basketball season

Wednesday, November 4, 2020

The Cottey College basketball program will not play games during the 2020-2021 season. The College’s decision is due to low participation numbers for the roster.

While COVID-19 has affected many aspects of campus, the timing of the pandemic hit during a crucial recruiting time for the basketball program, which made it difficult to adequately recruit student athletes and field a competitive roster.

This week the team was informed of the decision. All current players will retain their scholarships and be part of the roster next season. In the coming months, Cottey College will actively be working to build the basketball program and intends to play games next season.

Head coach Stephanie Beason announced in September this would be her final season as the athletic director and coach of the Comets. The College will soon begin conducting a search to find the next head basketball coach and athletic director.
