The Nevada Tiger Wrestling MSHSAA Class 2 Sectional 3 qualifiers traveled to Seneca on Saturday to compete in the sectional tournament.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, only the top three places would qualify for the state tournament this year.

Nevada had seven wrestlers qualify for this tournament: Kynndrick Brooks at 106 pounds, Braylin Brooks at 113, Mokey Dawn at 126, Ethan Dighero at 132, Jace Lee at 170, Logan Smith at 220, and Skylur Mashek at 285.

Freshman sensation Kynndrick Brooks qualified for his first MSHSAA state championships at 106, and Braylin Brooks qualified for his second at 113.

Kynndrick Brooks won his quarterfinal match by fall over Cameron Mckendrick of Buffalo. Brooks would meet up with Simon Hartline (32-8) of Monett in the semifinal and lost by fall to Hartline. This put Brooks in a win-or-go-home scenario for the remainder of the tournament.

In the consolation semifinals, Brooks pinned Clinton's Wallace Gregory (31-10). This put Brooks into the third-place match, one he had to win to go to state.

In that third-place match, Brooks pinned Pleasant Hill's Troy Gustin (32-6) to qualify for the state tournament. Brooks enters the state tournament with a record of 28-2 on the year.

At 113 pounds, Braylin Brooks had to work hard to qualify after losing his quarterfinal match by fall to Seneca's Alex Mejia-Jerez (18-8). This meant that Brooks, too, was in a win-or-go-home mode the rest of the day.

Brooks received a bye in the consolation round-one match before winning by fall over Center's Eric Franklin (11-9) in the consolation semifinal match. That put the elder Brooks in the third-place match, which he had to win to go to state.

Brooks would win that match by fall over Karey Anderson (7-11) of Monett. Brooks enters the state tournament with a record of 23-9.

The Brooks brothers join Claire Pritchett as the three Nevada wrestlers who have qualified for the MSHSAA State Championships. Stay tuned for a state preview later this week.
