The Cottey College softball team split with No. 14-ranked Central Baptist College on the road Friday, taking game one 9-8 (the school's first win over a ranked opponent in any sport since joining the NAIA) before falling in the nightcap 6-4.

Lauren Johnson led the way in the opener with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate and three runs, while Kristen Hurst helped her own cause in the circle with a grand slam. Lacey Cruz also threw 5 1/3 innings, striking out seven.

The Comets (14-4) stranded eight runners in game two.

They travel to Texas A&M Texarkana on Saturday.
