After a 12-0 win over Bacone College in game one of a doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Vanek Family Memorial Field, the Cottey College softball team looked poised for an easy sweep.

True to their name, though, the Warriors put up a valiant fight in the nightcap.

So, the Comets had to settle for a 2-0 win.

Karina Ramirez broke a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the fifth with a 2-out double that scored Alyssa Montoya.

Another double in the sixth, this time by Caitlyn Morgan, scored Aryana Palencia all the way from first, giving the Comets (17-5) an extra run for insurance.

They didn't need it, though, as Montoya was lights-out in the circle, allowing just four hits while striking out another four.

All the Comets got in on the action in the run-rule shortened opener, as Cottey racked up 14 hits from 12 different players. Lacey Cruz and Kristen Hurst combined in the circle for a two-hit shutout.
