David Allen Greenlee
David Allen Greenlee, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at the age of 87.
David is survived by his wife, Peggy Greenlee; his son, Lyndon Greenlee and wife Pam; his grandchildren, Jennifer Greenlee and wife Marlene, Chadd Greenlee and wife Krista, Zachary Greenlee and wife Cristin, and Caty Hernandez and husband Anthony; and his 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Mildred Greenlee; his brother, Ralph Greenlee; and his eldest son, Robin Greenlee.
David was born Feb. 23, 1934, in Horton, Mo., where he was raised until he graduated from Rich Hill High School. He married Peggy Thompson on Feb. 20, 1954. Together they owned the Nevada Speedway for 26 years where they made many lifelong friends. He was an entrepreneur at heart, and started many businesses, including a furniture store, a mattress store, and Greenlee Body Shop, where he worked with his son, Lyndon, for the past 40 years.
David lived a life of service. He served his country in the United States Army as a parachuter. He served the state of Missouri as a Fuel Auditor, and he served the Nevada community as a school bus driver and a member of the NRMC hospital board. He was an avid woodworker, he loved to read, and he loved spending time with his great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Newton Burial Park on Monday, June 14, 2021, at 10 a.m.
