Nevada's Emree Cameron scored another top-3 finish on the American Junior Golf Association summer circuit this week at the Creekmoor Golf Club in Raymore.

The incoming Nevada High School freshman, who was one of the youngest in the field of 24 female golfers, shot a 54-hole score of 223 (7-over-par) at the UHY Kansas City Junior Open — highlighted by a five-birdie second-round — to finish three strokes behind McKenzie Mages of Marietta, Ga., in second place and eight back of champion Julia Misemer of Overland Park, Kan.

Cameron, who won the KC Junior Match Play Championship earlier this month before taking third at the Missouri Golf Association's Junior Amateur Championship last week, kicked off this week's tournament with a 6-over-par opening round on Tuesday, aided by back-to-back birdies on the par-4 no. 6 and par-3 no. 7.

Her second round on Wednesday started unevenly — following up a birdie on the par-4 no. 2 with a double-bogey on the par-4 no. 3 — before catching fire starting with another birdie on no. 6. After bogeying no. 7, Cameron responded with birdies on three of her next four holes (each of which was a par-4). She scored six pars and a bogey to close out her back nine, finishing the day with a 1-under-par 71 and tying for third place entering the final round.

After beginning round three with back-to-back bogeys, Cameron scored a par on no. 3, a birdie on no. 4, and an eagle on the par-5 no. 5. She scored another birdie on no. 7, then made par on nos. 8 and 9 to close out her best nine holes of the event (2-under-par 34).

Cameron failed to record any birdies on the back nine, though, scoring par on five holes and bogeys on the other four, to finish with a 2-over-par 74.

She finished one stroke ahead of the next two players who tied for fourth, Katie Ruge of Omaha, Neb., and Anna Heck of Memphis, Tenn.

Swearingen finishes 40th

Owen Swearingen, an incoming senior at NHS, competed in the boys' UHY Kansas City Junior Open and shot a combined score of 234 (+18) to finish 40th out of a field of 53.

Swearingen's best round came on day one Tuesday, when he closed out his back nine with birdies on two of his final four holes — first on the par-4 no. 15, then on the par-3 no. 17. He shot back-to-back 37s for a round of 74 (+2).

Swearingen followed that up with identical scores of 80 (+8) the next two rounds, making par on 10 holes and bogeying the other eight on both Wednesday and Thursday.

New Zealand's Stephen Liu won the event with a 5-under-par 211.
