Every stroke counts.

The Nevada High School girls golf team learned that all-important lesson at the Lady Eagle Invitational Wednesday at the Schifferdecker Golf Course — where the Lady Tigers' combined score of 395 (+111) came up one stroke short of tying Carthage for the team best.

"As a team, we still need to work on consistency throughout the entire round and concentrate on every shot," NHS head coach Brian Leonard stated. "Every score, every swing, and every stroke counts. We need to continue to work on this concept and not waste any strokes."

Nevada freshman Emree Cameron won the individual event (her second tournament victory in a row) with a score of 74 (+3).

Junior Riley Severance tied for 13th with a 105 (+34), while senior teammates Libby Barrett and Katie Pennington tied each other for 18th with identical scores of 108 (+37).

Paige Hertzberg rounded out the team's scoring with a 115 (+44), which was good enough for 26th.

"My goal as a coach is for every golfer to improve every time we compete," Leonard stated. "Our ultimate outing will be in the district tournament on October 11 at Cassville. The tournaments leading up to that tournament will help us work on the consistency and concentration throughout the rounds. I am excited to see what this team can do when it’s time for districts."
