Dorothy Lee Defreese

Dorothy Lee Defreese, 95, Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Barone Alzheimer’s Care Center in Nevada. Dorothy was born Nov. 27, 1926, the youngest child of the late Dennis and Lena (Few) Jadlot.

Dorothy attended school in Metz, Mo. She married Don Chapman on Sept. 15, 1947, and together they had three sons: Danny, Darrell, and Donnie Chapman. Don passed away on Sept. 6, 1951. On July 4, 1958, she married Carl Defreese and added his son John to the family. Together they lived on a farm south of Sheldon, Mo. Carl preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1982. Dorothy was a longtime member of the Sheldon Christian Church.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Danny, Darrell and his wife, Debra, Don and his wife Geri, and her stepson, John and his wife, Coleen; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Overman and Ethel Voght; one brother, Gerald Jadlot; and a daughter-in-law, Deborah.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 9, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Pastor Tim Woodring officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery in Sheldon, Mo. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the Sheldon Christian Church in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
