NEVC Board of Education receives update on HVAC units
The Northeast Vernon County (NEVC) School Board meeting was called to order Thursday evening by President David Bruce, and continued with him giving the opening prayer.
The board approved of the agenda; transferring money from Fund 1 to Fund 2; paying the bills; and the minutes from the last meeting. The board then turned the meeting over to the two guests from ESP out of Kansas City — Chris Salzmann (Business Development Manager) and Rick Ginestra (Construction Manger). They both gave an updated report of the HVAC for all three schools: Elementary, junior high, and high school. They informed the board that they had managed to get the air conditioning units to put out more air. However, the condensing units need to be replaced at all three of the schools and their making great progress on the duct work installations. They assured the board that the items that need to be done, will be done by the time that school resumes in August. The board was pleased with their reports.
The next item on the agenda was the board approving of a one time 30 minute presentation program to the sophomores regarding being an organ and tissue donor. This presentation is in order for them to know when they go get their driver's license, to know what to tell the clerk if they choose to be a donor or not.
The board then discussed the new salary scale for the teachers, staff, and administration according to Governor Parson’s proposal and him signing off on it July 1. The board approved of the scale.
Mr. Ogburn, Elementary Principal, reported that the first summer school session was a success. They had 28 students attend. However, there is a slightly low attendance in the second session currently. This is due to the fact that some of the students are on vacations. He reported that the After School Reading Program was going real well and noted that some students reading skills have improved and their confidence levels have gone up.
On another subject, Ogburn reported that he finally got someone to come in and do janitorial duties in the elementary school and the person might be someone that they hire on as a custodian.
The only item Superintendent Naas told the board is that they will be having their budget meeting next Monday night, June 27. The board approved to adjourn the meeting, with the next board meeting scheduled for July 21.
