Hazel “Joyce” Ballenger

Hazel “Joyce” Ballenger, age 82, of Nevada, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022, at Moore-Few Care Center.

Joyce was born May 26, 1940, in Hannibal, Mo., to Lloyd and Juanita Iris (Parr) Bogeart. She had worked as a waitress most of her life. She married James E. Ballenger Sr. on Dec. 26, 1986, and he preceded her in death. Joyce was a member of the Nevada Eagles Lodge and enjoyed cross-stitching as well as dancing, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She had attended Baptist churches throughout her life.

Joyce leaves behind two daughters, Linda (Mike) Borum, Nevada, Mo., and Tammy (Toni) Kain, Jefferson City, Mo.; one son, Jack (Cindy) Damron, Cabot, Ark.; 10 grandchildren, Laura, Amy, Aaron, Michelle, Michael, Cody, Allison, Alex, Dylan, and Makenna;14 great-grandchildren; and her significant other, Howard Francis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James E. Ballenger Sr.; and a brother and sister, who were twins.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 9, at Nelson Cemetery in Nelson, Mo.
