NEVC Lady Knights win over Sheldon Lady Panthers in five sets on Senior Night
The 24-4 NEVC Lady Knights played a close game against the 7-18 Sheldon Lady Panthers, as they came out of the Lady Panthers home town with a win 3-2.“Sheldon gave us a run for our money,” stated Head Coach Jenny Allard for NEVC volleyball. “They came out with more aggressiveness than we did to start things off. I think a lot of the difficulties we had tonight were due to sitting for two JV basketball games, but they had to do that as well. There really is no excuse for us being so lethargic to start the match tonight. I am proud of the way we bounced back tonight and pushed them into a fifth set. We’ve been trying to focus on not having those issues in matches where we seem to give away points to the other team and allow them to get a run like Sheldon did tonight. It was a close match up tonight for sure.”
Katie Meyers, the Head Coach for the Sheldon Lady Panthers, talked to Nevada Daily Mail as well.“We decided we were going to play the hardest tonight against NEVC. We knew we could do itr after this weekend. We gave them a run for their money tonight. We are going to work on our passing and hitting in practice. We play McAuley Thursday evening for the opening round of districts and that is one thing where we have to get better. We have a positive mindset going into that battle, and we think we got it.”
The NEVC Lady Knights will also head into the district tournament with one goal; win. “Our mindset is not satisfied,” Allard quoted. “We have had a great regular season winning conference and the regular season championship, but that isn’t where we want to hang our hats on. We want to try to fight for a District Championship. We can do it too, but it will be hard to do so because of all of the good teams that will be fighting for it. We’ve been focusing on not giving away free points because you can’t do that or your season is done.” After the game, Sheldon recognized their four seniors for all of theiur hard work in the season. This was the Lady Panthers final home game of the season.
