Barry Wayne Scott

After a long and hard-fought battle, Barry Wayne Scott, 57, Nevada, Mo., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022. Barry was born Oct. 28, 1965, in Nevada, to William F. and Patricia A. (Cavanaugh) Scott.

Barry was raised in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1984. Following high school, he worked for a time at Fram Corporation. He resided most of his life in Nevada.

Barry was a lifelong fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs, along with being an avid wrestling fan. A lot of his favorite memories to recall on were sporting events, with his most treasured being the Royals’ World Series Game with his oldest son, Brett. Barry enjoyed helping coach his kids’ sports and never missed a game, show, or event. He was the guy you called when you needed help. Whether it was moving day or assisting with the yard, he was always eager to help those he loved.

Barry enjoyed all things shopping, especially Kohl’s and Academy, and no Joplin trip was complete without making a stop at Golden Corral. Barry enjoyed the little things. Cruising around in the car and getting a fresh Diet Coke would make his entire day.

Barry has spent his last few years living and breathing for his three biggest pride and joys, his grand babies. They inherited their onery bone from their Papa Scott, but they also received his heart of gold.

Over the last handful of years, it was his daily goal to tease every member of his second family, the staff at both Medicalodge and Moore-Few in Nevada. From calling bingo to helping with daily tasks, they helped give purpose to his life, and made their facilities feel like home.

Survivors include his four children, Taylor Hackleman (Taylor), Nevada, Brett Scott, Blue Springs, Mo., Zakry Scott, Independence, Mo., and Jessica Pike, Clarence, Mo.; grandchildren, Walker, Maverick, Rory Dru, Tabytha, Nicolas, and Xavier; sister, Chris McCarty (Patrick), Nevada; brother, Greg Scott, (Melissa), Girard, Kan.; numerous nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Sue Rich, Nevada, Mo. Dogs were always a huge part of Barry’s life. Also surviving Barry in death is his beloved Boston, Matti, who now resides with his grandbabies. No one spoiled her quite like he did, and she will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Don Stark; and a great-niece, Zoey Ipock.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 22, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with Steve Russ officiating. Private burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
