Vernon County Economic Developer Ben Vickers updated the Nevada City Council this week on his progress with contacting firms for the city's Master Plan. "As I've said many times, the 1984 City Council plan is a little outdated at this point," stated Vickers. "It definitely needs to be updated. Mark (Mitchell) and I have been talking and we're going to approach it from a couple different angles." Vickers noted that he would keep moving forward with the Downtown Revitalization Plan and has a separate strategic plan for that specifically. He added that he has been trying to locate firms. "I've reached out to Gilmore & Bell, which they do municipal all across the state and they made a couple recommendations to me and so I'm following up with them. I've got a couple of other leads, as well as the firm that did the State Hospital Redevelopment Master Plan." Vickers stated that he and Nevada City Manager Mark Mitchell would be discussing and figuring out the cost estimates with the hopes to put it out for bid. "It will probably be in the ballpark of $200,000," Vickers noted. "But, you know, it will last us 50 years — so, it's really a good investment when you look at it." Vickers stressed that the report needs to be in place so the city can apply for various grants and address housing issues."
