Coach Howarth's journey to coaching Nevada Lady Tigers Basketball

Editor's Note: The following is a part of the Nevada Daily Mail's "Coach Profiles" series.
The Nevada Daily Mail asked Coach Blake Howarth about his career in coaching and what led him to be the Coach for the Nevada Lady Tigers Basketball team.
Tell us your background a bit. Where did you go to high school and how did you get interested in coaching?
I’m from Lamar, Missouri and graduated in 2009. My coaching career started when I was working in Joplin during college. A Joplin High School coach asked me if I was interested in coaching. From there, I was hired as one of the Joplin South Middle School coaches for football. It helped me discover my passion for working with kids.
How did you end up getting involved into girls' basketball and football?
When my family and I first moved to Nevada, I was hired and then coached middle school football. After two years I was moved up to coach at the High School. My coaching roles and responsibilities have changed and grown over the years and I’ve loved every one of them. A year after being in Nevada the Freshman boy’s basketball position came open and I started coaching for Coach Gray. I did that for two years. When Coach Bartlett came back to coach at Nevada, he provided me the opportunity to coach on the girls side.
For anyone reading this that wants to be a coach in some way, what advice would you give them?
Do it! Watching the growth of student athletes and building those relationships with the kids is the most rewarding experience.
Finally, what does the future look like for you? Is there a sport that you haven't coached that you would like to in the future?
I hope to continue my coaching time here at Nevada until I’m ready to retire. My current coaching responsibilities keep me pretty busy, so I don’t think I’m looking to add any sports at this time.
