Bronaugh Wildcats and Lady Wildcats compete in Golden City Tournament this week

The Bronaugh Wildcats and Lady Wilcats have been competing in the Golden City Tournament this week. See below for a game-by-game recap.

Bronaugh Lady Wildcats vs. Diamond Lady Wildcats

The eighth seed Bronaugh Lady Wildcats took on the first seed Diamond Lady Wildcats in the their first game in the Golden City Tournament Monday evening, Jan. 9. Diamond started dominating in the first quarter by scoring 13, points while Bronaugh scored 7 points. The following players from Bronaugh scored in the first quarter: Gabby Cox scored 3 points, Jada Brundridge scored 2 points, and Gretchen Banes scored 2 points.

Bronaugh continued to struggle in the second quarter by scoring 4 points, while Diamond put up 14 points. The following players from Bronaugh scored in the second quarter: Gretchen Banes scored a 3 pointer and Wynsdae Connelly scored a free throw.

Coming out at halftime, Diamond came out with a fierce start by scoring 28 points in the third quarter. Bronaugh had their strongest quarter by scoring 18 points, but remained behind. The following players from Bronaugh scored in the third quarter: Gretchen Banes scored 9 points, Wynsdae Connelly scored 4 points, and Jada Brundridge scored 2 points.

Finally in the fourth quarter, Bronaugh was able to slow Diamond’s scoring down, but it wasn’t enough. Diamond scored 13 points and Bronaugh was only able to score 5 points, with Bronaugh taking their first loss in the tournament, 68-31. The following players from Bronaugh scored in the fourth quarter: Jada Brundridge scored 2 points, Wynsdae Connelly scored 2 points, and Gretchen Banes scored a free throw.

Bronaugh Wildcats vs. Golden City Eagles

The sixth seed Bronaugh Wildcats competed against the third seed Golden City Eagles in the Golden City Tournament Tuesday evening, Jan. 10. In the first quarter, the Eagles were ahead of the Wildcats by 2 points, 10-8, with the following Wildcats scoring: Strauss Banes scored 6 points and Bobby Gray scored 2.

Going into the second quarter, the Eagles were able to put up more baskets and outscored the Wildcats, 20-12, with the following Wildcats scoring: Strauss Banes scored 5 points, Tucker Duncan scored 3 points, Bobby Gray scored 2, and Tanner Wait scored 2 points.

After halftime, the Eagles came out in the third quarter and scored another 21 points, while the Wildcats were able to put 8 more on the board, with the following Wildcats scoring: Strauss Banes scored 3 points, Bobby Gray scored 3 points, and Tucker Duncan scored 2 points.

To finish the game off, in the fourth quarter the Wildcats were able to slow down the Eagles, allowing them to only score 11 points, while the Wildcats were able to put up another 10 points on the board. Ultimately, the Wildcats had to take the loss with the score of 62-38.

Bronaugh Lady Wildcats vs. Jasper Lady Eagles

Bronaugh Lady Wildcats traveled back to play their second game in the Golden City Tournament Wednesday evening, Jan. 11. The Lady Eagles were powerful in the first quarter and outscored the Lady Wildcats, 18-5 by the end of the quarter, with the following Lady Wildcats scoring: Wynsdae Connelly scored 3 points and Haylie Million scored 2 points.

Things remained the same in the second quarter for the Lady Wildcats, with the Lady Eagles outscoring them, 16-4. The following Lady Wildcats scored: Haylie Million scored 2 points and Gretchen Banes scored a single free throw.

Coming out of halftime, the Lady Wildcats had regrouped and put up a good fight against the Lady Eagles in the third quarter, however, it wasn’t enough. The Lady Eagles outscored them, 14-11, with the following Lady Wildcats scoring: Jada Brundridge scored 4 points, Gretchen Banes scored 3 points, and Haylie Million scored 2 points, and Baelie Griffiths scored 2 points.

Finally, in the fourth quarter, the Lady Wildcats were able to shut down the Lady Eagles from outscoring over them, and the Lady Wildcats were able to outscore the Lady Eagles, 10-4, with the following Lady Wildcats scoring in the last quarter: Wynsdae Connelly scored 6 points, Gretchen Banes scored 2 points, and Baelie Griffiths scored 2 points.

The Lady Wildcats playing time came to an end in the tournament. The Lady Eagles were victorious over the Lady Wildcats, 52-29.
