Carl Melvin Gibson

Carl Melvin Gibson, 88, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Friday, March 4, 2023, at Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada. Carl, the son of the late William Jasper and Ida (Moore) Gibson was born Fe. 27, 1935, in Eve, Mo.

Carl grew up in the Sandstone area. He attended Sandstone School and later Walker High School. In 1952, at the age of 17, his family moved to Nevada. In 1958, he married Ruth Driver.

Carl worked at various restaurants and cafés throughout his life including White Grill, Firp and Bob’s Drive In, Bikes Burger Bar in Nevada, Mo., and in Iowa, and the State Fair Restaurant in Sedalia, Mo.

In 1972, he bought the Mitchel Coffee Shop in Nevada which he operated for a number of years. In 1989, he moved to Joplin and worked at Katies Café in Galena, Kan., for a time before moving to Fort Scott in 1996 and back then back to Nevada in 2002.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters, Rose McReynolds and also an infant sister. He is survived by his son, Anthony (Tony) Gibson; a stepson, Terry Gibson; and several nieces and nephews.

Carl will be laid to rest in Milo Cemetery at a graveside service at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 9, with D.J. Ford officiating. Services are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada.
